Root Capital seeks a Budget Manager for our Cambridge headquarters. The Budget Manager contributes in three key areas. First, the position manages the organization’s budgeting systems, policies, and processes and works with department budget mangers to create and monitor the annual operating budget. Second, the position works with program and investor relations staff to prepare and monitor proposal and project budgets. Finally, the position assists the Senior Analyst & Finance Manager in providing financial and donor-specific reporting to senior management, the board of director, donors and investors.
Root Capital seeks applications for an Executive Assistant (EA) to provide administrative support to the Founder & CEO. The Executive Assistant plays a vital role within the organization, ensuring that the Executive Office functions efficiently and liasing gracefully with other departments. In addition to general logistical and administrative support, the EA’s specific responsibilities will include maintaining the CEO’s calendar, managing his travel arrangements, processing expense and budget reports, handling confidential communication and correspondence, and assisting with board relations.
In the next two years, Root Capital plans to conduct qualitative and quantitative impact assessment studies in Africa and Latin America to document our impact at the enterprise and household levels. The results of these studies will inform Root Capital’s strategy and operations, and demonstrate our impact externally to help drive increased investment in the sustainable value chain finance industry. The Impact Assessment Officer will be the point person driving these studies forward, responsible for researching design, leading the implementation and logistical management of the studies, writing research reports for internal and external use, and identifying and proposing implications for Root Capital’s strategy and operations. A minority of the Officer’s time will be spent on other research and writing projects, and cultivating and managing partnerships with research institutions.
Root Capital seeks an Investor Relations Officer who is passionate about impact investing. The Investor Relations Officer will be responsible for building relationships with Root Capital’s donors, investors, and other external audiences by effectively communicating the importance of Root Capital’s work and its impact. S/he will be responsible for integrating information from different departments within Root Capital and for sharing that information in a compelling way through proposals, reports, emails and other communiqués. Working closely with the Investor Relations team, s/he will also contribute to strategy development and planning to ensure that philanthropic capital goals are met or exceeded.
Root Capital seeks a proactive and motivated Investor Relations Operations Associate. S/he will contribute to the Investor Relations team by managing donor and investor data and by providing logistical and administrative support to ensure smooth and efficient operations. The responsibilities include managing gift and investment data processing and acknowledgement, running reports, coordinating logistics for on and off site events, and providing some administrative support to the vice president and director.
The Lending Analysis Assistant supports the growth of the analytical capacity of the Lending Team by providing additional analytical capabilities to the Lending Analysis Manager and to the Junior Analyst. He/she will also support ongoing projects between the Lending Analysis and the Impact Assessment team as appropriate. This position will work closely with other members of the lending team, accounting team, and supervisors. Through his/her work, s/he will reflect the organization’s belief that a well-supported and well-informed strategic team will be the most effective in achieving RC’s mission.
Root Capital seeks a proactive and motivated Portfolio Associate to support the Portfolio Operations Team in performing loan servicing, including payment processing and portfolio data reporting, in Root Capital’s Cambridge, Massachusetts headquarters. Candidates should have a background and interest in international development, a strong client service philosophy, and a passion for Root Capital’s mission. Candidates must be fluent in Spanish. One to two years of experience in office support is a plus.
Root Capital seeks a Senior Financial Analysis Associate to assist with the generation of comprehensive financial forecasting and financial analysis in our Cambridge office. Working with the Senior Analyst & Finance Manager, the Senior Associate will be responsible for both analyzing Root Capital’s ongoing financial performance and modeling forward looking pro forma financial statements, cash flows, and ratios. This includes ownership of aspects of the finance model and collaboration with fundraising, lending, and budget teams to ensure that Root Capital is integrating non-profit best practices and the forward-thinking entrepreneurial approach of a social investment fund striving to grow rural prosperity by investing in businesses that build sustainable livelihoods in Africa and Latin America.

Root Capital seeks a Field Accountant for our Costa Rica office. The Field Accountant will be in charge of timely and accurate full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for our Latin American offices and will assist the Regional Director with budget analysis and management.
Root Capital seeks an experienced Project Administrator who will be responsible for all administration and reporting associated with a 3-year initiative in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Honduras co-funded by the IDB / MIF (ATN/ME-12851-RG) that will 1) provide financial training to rural agricultural cooperatives focused on management of internal credit funds, and 2) mobilize capital in coordination with local financial institutions. This position will lead all elements of project administration, including project accounting in coordination with Root Capital’s Finance department and reporting to Root Link activities and outcomes to project funders.
Opportunities in Africa
Root Capital seeks a skilled researcher to conduct a short-term qualitative research project on the impact of Root Capital’s work with at least two of our clients in Uganda. The researcher will spend 2-3 weeks on-site in each community conducting qualitative impact assessment research with the small-scale farmers that sell their crops to our client enterprises and with the managers of the client enterprise itself.
